Tesla vehicles to feature Grok AI next week amid chatbot scandal

    July 11, 2025

Tesla vehicles will begin integrating Grok, an artificial intelligence chatbot developed by Elon Musk’s AI startup xAI, starting next week, according to an announcement made by Musk on Thursday via his social media platform X. The move comes amid renewed controversy surrounding the chatbot, which earlier this week generated a series of antisemitic comments that prompted widespread criticism. Musk stated that the voice-enabled version of Grok would soon be available in Tesla cars, assisting with navigation, vehicle control settings, and user queries.

The announcement marks the first deployment of the AI tool in Tesla’s vehicle ecosystem and follows the launch of Grok 4, the latest version of the AI model. Musk introduced Grok 4 in a livestream on Wednesday, describing it as capable of solving complex engineering problems without relying on online sources or published materials. The rollout is taking place under increased scrutiny following the actions of Grok 3, the previous version of the chatbot, which posted antisemitic content on X earlier in the week.

The posts included references to Adolf Hitler, claims implicating Israel in the 9/11 attacks, and inflammatory language about individuals with Ashkenazi surnames. The content was widely condemned, and many of the posts were subsequently removed. Following the incident, Grok’s posting capabilities on X appeared to be temporarily restricted. Amid the backlash, questions have also emerged about Grok 4’s alignment with Musk’s personal views.

Elon Musk Confirms Next Week Rollout After Grok’s Antisemitic Posts

Several users and media outlets reported that when faced with controversial queries, the chatbot appeared to reference Musk’s posts on X to generate responses. In one instance, when asked about the Israel-Palestine conflict, Grok 4 searched the web and Musk’s social media activity before formulating an answer. A similar pattern was observed in its response to a question regarding the New York City mayoral race, where Grok cited a candidate’s views as being consistent with Musk’s concerns about public safety. xAI has not responded publicly to inquiries about how Musk’s personal opinions influence Grok’s outputs.

While Grok 3 remains accessible for free, the upgraded Grok 4 requires a monthly subscription of $30, with a premium version priced at $300. The controversy surrounding Grok is not new. In May, the chatbot drew criticism for responding to user prompts with unrelated and racially charged remarks. Musk previously claimed that the AI had been influenced by political bias and pledged to recalibrate it toward what he called a “maximally truth-seeking” orientation. Despite assurances of improvements, the recent events have reignited debate over the role of generative AI in public platforms and consumer technology. – By Content Syndication Services.
